One of the biggest problems for groups centering around homeschoolers who were abused (physically, emotionally, neglected, etc) is that there’s an extremely hard party and secular line that assumes all conservative (or libertarian, independent, non-political etc) and all Christian (fundamentalist especially but really anything that hasn’t been watered down to nothingness) people or philosophies are bad if not outright evil. It leaves a lot of people on the outside but more important it means they don’t address their own issues. They just assume they are good for being liberal secularists and stay angry without resolving the pain of their abuse. They never reach the understanding that their abuse was because their abusers are humans with a fallen nature, and that simply doing whatever seems like the opposite of their parents isn’t necessarily going to do anything for anyone.
In retrospect that AIDS quilt was basically a Vietnam War Memorial for the first, 70s wave of queer liberation, wasn’t it?
